Situated on the coast along Jaltemba Bay is this beautiful little fishing village known as La Peita. Back in 2000, the sign on the highway said 7160 inhabitants; that same sign was there for many years without changing. Now the true population is hard to tell because there are so many tourists/snowbirds that come here from Canada & the United States between November and April.

La Penita de Jaltemnba is along the coastline with Los Ayala, Rincon de Guayabitos and then La Peita. La Peita is the main town with services for the other two towns as in a bank, hardware stores, repair shops, grocery stores & meat markets. Over the years, the grocers have brought in more and more North American items that helps to make shopping easier. Of course, not far away in Puerto Vallarta, youll find Costco, Sams Club, Walmart, Home Depot and many other major food and staple stores.

La Peita is a fishing village so it is very east to shop for many different kinds of seafood, including dorado, red snapper and an abundance of shrimp. In shrimping season, you can always see the many shrimp boats out around the island catching the shrimp so that they are fresh each morning for the restaurants, fish shops and of course, for the tourists to buy. Besides fishing, La Peita relies on tourism to keep it going. The three little towns on Jaltemba Bay have loads of good restaurants so there is never a shortage of ideas as to where to eat out. Everything from Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, and German cuisine can be found and thoroughly enjoyed.

The weather is another reason why people come to this area. Generally speaking between November and April, the weather is very nice reaching anywhere between 25 and 34 degrees with blue sunny skies. The rainy season starts sometime around late June or into early July and lasts until about October.

La Peita also boasts some great farming such as mangos, bananas, pineapples, a huge variety of vegetables and more. Lots of activities for the tourists include zip lining, swimming with the dolphins, San Blas river tour, whale watching, fishing, ATV rentals, or perhaps a day out on a catamaran.

The cost of living in this area is below that of Puerto Vallarta making La Penita de Jaltemba a great holiday destination that will not drain your pocket book. There are lots of reasons to come and visit this wonderful area!!
