Recently, in the windy chilly late afternoon, we had our last couples’ night at the Waskesiu Golf Course in Waskesiu, Saskatchewan. Thirty couples braved the wind & cold with bunnyhugs, jackets toques, hats, and long pants to finish off the weekly Saturday night couples’ night. After the golf, we all gathered in the Club House for a wonderful wind up dinner of BBQ’d steak, huge butter grilled prawns, baby potatoes, ceasar salad and garlic bread. The evening was hosted by Richard Kilburn from his investment firm.
They made a few draws for prizes and then we (Bob & Linda) made a draw for a 7 night stay at the Casita for this upcoming season. We had last year’s winners there so we let the husband make the draw. Richard had a little side bet draw going, wherein everyone present could make a $20.00 or more bet that their name would be drawn for the trip. If the winner for the 7 nights’ accommodation were present and this winner had taken the $20.00 side bet, then Richard would write them a $1000.00 cheque to put towards their trip. Of course everyone took the side bet. We pretty much had a black garbage bag 1/2 full with the golf cards from the entire summer. The draw was made, the winning couple, from Prince Albert, was present and they had taken the little side bet. They were so excited to win the 7 days at our Casita and then Richard handed them a $1000.00 cheque from his company. What a generous gesture and a super way to end the season. There were disappointed faces, of course, because everyone likes to win but the couple that won were super pumped. The wife was getting tears in her eyes. The money that had been made for the side bet was being donated to the Waskesiu Foundation so another great thing for the Foundation and all the work they do in the Park.
